(Id suggest we dont close this thread because we can see what he actually wants to know)
We need to know alot more than just "i want to know how to get better" i.e , what proffession are you?, what level? weps?armor? heroes? skills? ect. Theres ALOT of stickes(permanent threads) on each proffession in the Campfire, i do suggest you start reading them, they are really helpfull. |

Starting in pvp when you are completly new isnt very smart, because you enter arena's with LOTS of other people, most of them knowing better what to do.
Sadly, learning via PvE is alot easier, and alot more friendly. |

Welcome to the game... here are 2 important websites for you:
* wiki: http://wiki.guildwars.com (allmost erverything you need to know about gw) * pvxwiki: http://www.gwpvx.com/PvX_wiki (all about making builds) I do agree with Olle that making and playing a PvE character helps you to understand the basics... and everything you unlock (skills, runes, insignia's, weaponmods and such) can be used on your pvp-only characters Good luck and have fun with this great game |

I would make a pve character just to go thru the starter area--it explains a lot of how to do things...and unlocks a few skills too. You dont have to continue to play that character (you have multiple slots for additional characters) but it would help you understand the game and its mechanics a lot better than jumping into pvp.

Its not easy to explain how to play in pvp...
First you need to know that basics: * how to modify your pvp armor using runes and insignia's * what weapons to use and how to modify them * what skills to use and when You are a new player, so you dont have many things unlocked yet (skills, mods for armor and weapons) and in pvp you often play vs experienced players. Thats almost a mission impossible if you ask me. In my opinion you should first focus on those basics, unlock skills, unlock mods and learn how to use them. So start reading the wiki's... |

the BEST way to get better at using your skills, is practice! pve will allow you to try out skills--learn to use them, learn which ones NOT to use, etc.
You can not expect to understand the whole game is just a few days, take your time and play around--there is no wrong way at the beginning! trial and error will help you out a lot. have fun and play around, you will get the hang of it!

Aside from that, the advice everyone is giving you is correct -- practice makes perfect. In addition to getting used to your profession of choice in PvE, I would also suggest playing around with other professions a little bit. A key part of PvP (really the whole game) is knowing your enemy and how they operate. The best way to learn this is to walk a mile in their shoes. |

In regard to PvE, this might give you some general info.
In regard to PvP, if you own all the campaigns and the EotN expansion, the only way to get better is to practice and watch. |
